Tara and her sisters bought a gift certificate for their mom for Christmas. Because of the craziness of 2020, we weren’t able to schedule their Logan Utah extended family session until September.
Tara is a friend of mine, and I was so pleased that she asked me to do her whole family’s photos! I enjoyed meeting her parents and siblings. Tara’s nephew was the chubbiest baby and I had a hard time not gobbling him up!
We met at a park in Logan that I hadn’t been to before, and it proved a trick to find a good spot for photos with the whole group. We found some large pine trees with a good amount of shade for the family to stand under. When shooting during harsh light I do my best to find shade to shoot in to avoid harsh shadows on faces.
During my extended family sessions we do posed photos, and I give prompts or ask questions to get natural laughs and smiles from everyone. It ends up being so much fun for all the family members, and for me!
Grandma and Grandpa were so fun. Grandpa kept cracking jokes and getting everyone to laugh and roll their eyes all at the same time. Watching Emma hold her baby cousin with Grandma and Grandpa snuggling up close was so sweet.
I don’t often do extended family sessions, but when I do I really enjoy it! There’s something special about watching several generations of family members spending time with one another. It makes me miss my family so much, but also so grateful for the time we do get to spend together when we go visit.
